Peace 101 is an educational program which serves local organizations, students, and educators. The goal of the Museum’s new Peace 101 and its subsequent classes is to offer instruction in peace education and mindfulness, expressive art mediums, and other curricula models in a calm atmosphere, inviting students to decompress emotionally. The program is not intended to be psychotherapy but a structured approach to understanding empathy, self-care, friendship, setting personal goals, and improving self-esteem. The courses are designed to meet Ohio’s K-12 Social and Emotional Learning Standards.
Every program begins with a get-to-know-you activity/ice breaker so people are able to make connections. Following this, we lead the group in a tour of the museum and/or tour of the new temporary exhibit. We will engage in discussions of peace literacy, self-awareness, self-confidence, and compassion. Based on the conversation/lesson, we will participate in an art based activity that will center on a particular theme for that session.
