What it is about
The Museum of the Peace Corps Experience (MPCE), in collaboration with the International Peace Museum, is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibit Ubuntu in Action: Exploring The Peace Corps and Shared Humanity, set to open on January 31, 2025, and run through April 2025. This temporary exhibit will be featured as part of the International Peace Museum’s annual Season of Nonviolence, a program honoring the legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by promoting peace and nonviolence.
The exhibit’s title, Ubuntu in Action, takes inspiration from the Southern African philosophy of Ubuntu, which translates to “I am because we are.” This concept highlights interconnectedness, shared humanity, and community—core values central to the mission of the Peace Corps. The philosophy comes alive through the stories of Peace Corps Volunteers who work hand-in-hand with host country nationals to address social inequalities and foster cultural exchange.
